Oh, this is a good one. Jacob has always been known as not only a great songwriter but also an excellent interpreter of other people’s tunes.

Here, his winsome voice (which sounds good in more octaves than it should) and astonishing guitar skills bring Christmas classics and several lesser known nuggets to wonderful life.

I sing on Fernando Ortega’s “Winter Song”, as well as “It Came Upon a Midnight Clear” and “O Come O Come Emmanuel”. Make sure you check out the spirited “Rise Up Shepherds and Follow”, the brilliant string arrangement on “I Saw Three Ships” and the lone (but very good) original tune, “This Christmas”.

The tender guitar rendition of Rich Mullins’ “You Gotta Get Up” has left a nostalgic lump in my throat. OK, that’s a whole lot of highlights. Pretty much the whole disc is a homerun. Merry Christmas.
