Often, contemporary recordings of the hymns make the baffling error of attempting to improve on what has already proved itself excellent. Not so with this project. Veteran musician Jon Buller has teamed up with singer/guitarists Nolan Balzar, Kevin Aichle and producer Olaf Pytlick to gift us with fresh, simple acoustic, harmonically strong, excellently performed and lovingly offered renditions of songs that weren’t broke in the first place. Listening to this recording one gets the definite impression that this is not born of mere nostalgia or sentiment, but rather a profound gratitude for a faith handed down and received with a determination to pass along what has been so capably nurtured and sustained.
